Yes there are hand rails at Bass Rock.  However, getting on and off the boat is difficult.  Stairs are slippery and often the boat is moving up and down dramatically.  The guide will assist you on getting on and off the boat, but it is dangerous.  The climb up to where you will be permitted to view the birds is steep.  It is a bit arduous, but something that anyone in normal physical condition can accomplish.

The key is to be careful and follow instructions.

I am a photographer and I am wondering whether to go myself.  Can you tell me, whether there are HAND RAILS  A L L   T H E   W A Y    
U P    T O    T H E     T O P?    I don&#039;t think I&#039;d feel safe enough if there were places where there WEREN&#039;T hand rails!   And do you really have to have a &#039;head for heights&#039;, do you think?
