The Vosonic VP8360 - A user review by Melanie

(marketed in the US as the Wolverine ESP

Having been used for most of my trips to just throwing all my gear in the back of the car, overseas travel is something of a nightmare in terms of packing.

In recent times the limit on cabin baggage has been quite strictly enforced. Most of us have been used to taking our valuable camera gear as hand luggage, so these restrictions have hit photographers harder than most. Additionally for trips that involve moving from location to location and when space is limited, such as in boat cabins there is a further practical need to travel as lightly as possible. Carrying a laptop is a luxury we often have to live without.  Portable media readers/viewers offer a lightweight solution, they have the advantage that you can't begin your post-processing diverting you from what your travel is about i.e. capturing the image!

There are a number of these on the market but my choice was the Vosonic VP8360.

Why:

I’d had a previous Vosonic device which had given good service, but I wanted to be able to view my images in more detail,

The price was extremely good value in a competitive field,

Customer support from Vosonic is excellent, with email queries receiving prompt replies and fixing any niggles,

Frequent updates and downloads,

The option of being able to install a new hard drive, hence expandable memory,

Readily available spare batteries.

Likes:

Comes in a nifty case for travel. Though, when space is tight I will pack it in bubble wrap.

Docking cradle for use at home

It has been entirely reliable.

Dislikes:

Slow download times compared to my companions devices

Screen a little bright, so shots can sometimes appear overexposed.

It may be that the niggles are fixed in the soon to be released: VP8860 , I’m already wondering if I can justify buying one.
